Maastricht, 13 February 2025 – Leonardo Hotels proudly announces that Designhotel Maastricht is the first of the twelve recently acquired Eden Hotels from the Zien Group to be transformed into a Leonardo Boutique Hotel. Starting this week, the hotel will operate under its new name: Leonardo Boutique Hotel Maastricht City Center. This marks the beginning of a large-scale rebranding process, in which the names, branding, and systems of the acquired hotels will be integrated into the Leonardo network - accompanied by major renovation plans.

Last year, Leonardo Hotels Group acquired twelve hotels in the Netherlands. In addition to Designhotel Maastricht, the group added five hotels in Amsterdam to its portfolio, including the well-known Eden Hotel Amsterdam, the iconic The Manor, The Lancaster Amsterdam, the stylish Jan Luyken Amsterdam, and The ED Amsterdam. With six more hotels in top city locations - such as Babylon Hotel The Hague, Savoy Hotel Rotterdam, Crown Hotel Eindhoven, City Hotel Groningen, City Hotel Hengelo, and Oranje Hotel Leeuwarden - Leonardo Hotels is emerging as one of the leading hotel groups in the region. Once rebranded and renovated, the Benelux portfolio will consist of 28 hotels and more than 4,000 rooms.

First step in the transformation

This week, Designhotel Maastricht received its new name and updated signage, and its internal systems were fully transitioned. This marks the first visible step in the hotel’s integration into the Leonardo Hotels brand.

Maarten Benschop, General Manager of Leonardo Boutique Hotel Maastricht City Center, shared:

“Our hotel is perfectly located, making it ideal for welcoming not only Dutch guests but also visitors from Germany and Belgium. Now that we’re part of a portfolio of over 300 hotels across Europe, we’re even better positioned to serve these markets. I look forward to welcoming guests with the warm hospitality we’re known for here in Maastricht.”

Leonardo Boutique Hotel Maastricht City Center is just 200 metres from Maastricht Central Station and within walking distance of the Vrijthof. The hotel mainly attracts leisure travellers looking to explore the cultural and culinary highlights of the Limburg capital. While the high level of service remains unchanged, the rebranding offers new opportunities to elevate the guest experience. Plans are being explored for a full renovation, which will position the hotel even more strongly in the market.

The acquisition of Zien Group by Leonardo Hotels Group is part of a broader growth strategy in the Benelux region. With a portfolio of over 300 hotels in Europe, including around 80 in Germany, Leonardo Boutique Hotel Maastricht City Center is well-equipped to meet the needs of both local and international guests. In the coming months, the remaining eleven hotels will also gradually be integrated into the Leonardo family.
