Selected: the best shopping cities of the Netherlands
27 Jul 2022 | InspirationThe Netherlands is blessed with many great shopping options. From bustling cities with big-name brands, to cosmopolitan city centres packed with special boutiques and concept stores, it’s hard to know where to start! Fortunately, we like to make life easy for you, so here are our top selection shopping cities in the Netherlands.
1. Shopping in Amsterdam
In our opinion, there is no other place in the Netherlands where you can find so many great shopping areas as Amsterdam. You can stroll around the stores for hours (if not days) on the Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat, PC Hooftstraat and Negen Straatjes, and barely touch the surface of the great shopping potential of Amsterdam! And if you want to shop like a local? Without a doubt, the Gerard Doustraat, Utrechtsestraat and Haarlemmerstraat/Dijk are the top spots, they are well worth a look!
There are no better places to stay during your shopping trip than our hotels. Eden Hotels are located in the city centre, so you have the best shopping streets directly at your feet.
2. Shopping in Maastricht
When talking about great shopping cities in the Netherlands, charming Maastricht definitely deserves a mention. In addition to this fine city’s fantastic culinary and cultural offerings, keen shoppers are also well catered for. The city centre offers many well-known department stores and international chains, but throughout the city there are some wonderful neighbourhoods dotted around which also offer great shopping. Without a doubt, we think the best shopping area in Maastricht is Wyck. You are bound to find something special in the many boutiques on the Rechtstraat and the Wycker Brugstraat. And don’t forget to visit the Jekerkwartier, Sphinxkwartier and Minckelersstraat, too.
Designhotel Maastricht is situated in the most desirable neighbourhood of Maastricht: Wyck. Enjoy a fun shopping session in beautiful Maastricht combined with a relaxing stay in our hotel!
3. Shopping in Rotterdam
When you talk about shopping in Rotterdam you might think of the Koopgoot, but Rotterdam has so many more great, and relatively undiscovered, shopping areas. The trendy MaHo Quarter is also known as the SoHo of Rotterdam, and has many fabulous design shops, niche boutiques and vintage outlets. Don’t forget to visit the Pannekoekstraat, too, for another brilliant shopping experience.
Savoy Hotel Rotterdam is located a stone's throw from the vibrant MaHo Quarter. And you can take our word for it that one day in Rotterdam is simply not enough.
4. Shopping in The Hague
The Hague also offers some fabulous shopping opportunities. The well-known city centre is packed full of shopping streets, but there are other parts of the city which are absolutely worth a visit, too. Consider a trip to the Denneweg and Frederik Hendriklaan which are renowned for their beautiful boutiques, full of hidden gems. And if you are really ready for a serious shopping session then head to the largest indoor shopping centre in the Netherlands, Westfield Mall of the Netherlands – located very close to The Hague.
How nice would it be to fall straight into a long hot bath and then a comfy bed after a busy day’s shopping? Combine a shopping experience at Westfield Mall of the Netherlands with a stay at Babylon Hotel Den Haag!
5. Shopping in Eindhoven
Eindhoven is a city which is celebrated for its design credentials, and we think you are guaranteed to have a brilliant time shopping here! The streets are bursting with interesting and unique design stores and stylish boutiques, and although you can find all the big names in the heart of the city, Crown Hotel Eindhoven Centre's City Ambassador, Ineke, says that the area around the Emmasingel, in particular, is worth a visit. She says, 'around the Emmasingel you can find many of those fun "everything-shops" that will surely entice you. There are so many beautiful things for your house as well as lovely gifts and boutique style clothes.'
